Overbrook Parent Panel Discussion

In June 2009, Board members Meghan and Julie were pleased to participate in this discussion panel during Overbrook's Summer Workshop Parent Training. The parents that attended the group have children under three years old in need of Overbrook's services and utilized this time to ask questions, gain insight, and obtain resources on how to cope with the many issues that arise when caring for a child with special needs. The discussion was thoughtful, productive, and insightful and the families were certainly corageous and inspiring.

Overbrook Resource Connections Fair

4Sight participated in Overbrook School for the Blind's Resource Fair hosted by their Early Intervention Program on February 11, 2009. Eleven local service organizations that serve visually impaired children each had a station with information, brochures, and various materials. A number of Overbrook families attended the event and learned about the many valuable resources available to them in the community. The organizations that participated in the event are listed on our Resource Page.

Spreading the Word

President of 4Sight, Meghan Wismer, was invited to speak to pediatric ophthalmologists twice in 2007. In May, she presented 4Sight's mission and goals to the attendees of a dinner for the Delaware Valley Pediatric Ophthalmology Society held at the Inn at Penn. Mrs. Wismer also spoke at the 25th Annual Pediatric Ophthalmology Forum at Wills Eye Hospital that same fall. Hosted by the late Dr. Joseph Calhoun, this forum drew more than 100 physicians from around the country. These presentations are a great opportunity to expand awareness of our organization to the medical field who, in turn, can share our information with their patients and families.

Crumbfest 2007

Laurie O’Hara and Ed Ryan held their annual “Crumbfest” party in July at their home in Northeast Philadelphia, and this year it benefitted 4Sight. Guests bought 4Sight t-shirts, danced to a live band, enjoyed home cooked barbecue, and partied late into the evening. The event raised over $1,300 for 4Sight!

Lindsay's Looking Glass

In March 2007, 4Sight was contacted by the Ostrowski family asking for help for their two year old daughter, Lindsay. This sweet, little girl needed to travel to London for evaluations and testing not available in the US in the hopes to treat a scarred cornea in her left eye. In only three months and with the amazing support of the Ostrowski’s friends and family, 4Sight was able to raise enough money to cover their trip to England and any ongoing medical expenses. Unfortunately, Lindsay was not a candidate for a cornea transplant but the family feels grateful that they had the opportunity to explore every option for Lindsay. The family is doing well and the vision in Lindsay’s right eye remains strong.

Kick Off Party a Success!

On March 9, 2007, 4Sight introduced itself to the community with a fantastic Kick Off Party held at Brownies in Ardmore. Over 100 guests attended the event and bid on more than 40 donated silent auction items. When all was said and done, we raised over $6,000 thanks to the generosity of our friends, family, and community partners.
